India’s Rising Role in Global Intellectual Property Landscape

The WIPO’s WIPI 2024 report highlights India’s significant rise in the global intellectual property (IP) sector, with rankings in the top 10 for patents, trademarks, and industrial designs. India recorded a 15.7% increase in patent applications and a 36.4% surge in industrial design filings, driven by domestic innovation and government initiatives. It ranks sixth globally in patent filings and fourth in trademarks. This growth, supported by initiatives promoting IP awareness and protection, underscores India’s evolving role in global innovation. Challenges include streamlining processes and boosting international filings, with a focus on sustaining growth through enhanced infrastructure and enforcement.
