India’s Education Spending Under Scrutiny
India’s education spending, stagnant at 2.7% to 2.9% of GDP, lags behind global benchmarks, as revealed by a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) study. Compared to Sweden (6.7%-6.9%) and the UK (5.3%-5.6%), India’s lower investment hampers educational quality and development. The report urges raising the budget to 6% of GDP, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s focus on holistic learning. Data from OECD and UNESCO highlights India’s need for strategic investments to improve outcomes, integrate vocational training, and address challenges such as underfunding and inequity in education.
