India-Pakistan Nuclear Agreement Update
India and Pakistan recently conducted their 34th consecutive annual exchange of information on nuclear installations under the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack Against Nuclear Installations and Facilities. The agreement, signed in 1988 and effective since 1991, aims to prevent attacks on each other’s nuclear facilities. The two countries also exchanged details on civilian prisoners and fishermen in custody, reflecting a rare instance of cooperation amidst persistent bilateral tensions. India shared information about 381 civilian prisoners and 81 fishermen, while Pakistan reported 49 prisoners and 217 fishermen believed to be Indian. Both nations emphasized expediting the release of prisoners who have completed their sentences.
