India Launches PM E-Drive Scheme for Electric Vehicles
India's PM E-Drive Scheme, launched in 2024, aims to promote electric vehicle (EV) adoption, replacing the FAME II program. With a two-year budget of INR 10,900 crore, it focuses on subsidizing electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, trucks, buses, and ambulances while excluding electric cars. Managed by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, the scheme also plans to develop 88,500 charging stations nationwide. Emphasis on electric buses involves a budget of INR 4,391 crore. Industry leaders like Ola and Mahindra have praised the initiative, foreseeing improved EV adoption and infrastructure. The scheme's success depends on effective implementation and broader public awareness.
