Arunachal Pradesh- Assam Border Dispute

The inter-state border disputes in the north-east India has started taking the center stage in recent times. While Assam has border disputes with almost all its neighboring states, its dispute with Arunachal Pradesh has become especially concerning given the recent spate of violence.
Background:
- Arunachal Pradesh was earlier a part of Assam. The 2 states share an 800 km long boundary.
- Brief timeline:
- In 1873, the British colonial administration brought in the “inner line” regulation. Under this regulation, an imaginary boundary was established to demarcate the plains from the frontier hills. The frontier hills correspond to the present-day AP.
