Hab-1: India’s First Analog Space Mission
India's first analog space mission, Hab-1, was conducted in Ladakh to simulate space conditions and prepare astronauts for Moon and Mars missions. The egg-shaped Habitat-1 is built using space-grade Teflon and foam insulation, designed for resource-limited environments. An astronaut spent three weeks in Ladakh’s extreme climate (-18°C to 20°C), facing isolation and monitoring health metrics such as stress and sleep. This mission supports India's Gaganyaan project and long-term plans for a lunar landing by 2040. Analog missions like Hab-1 also complement global efforts by NASA, Russia, and China to tackle space travel challenges and advance interplanetary exploration.
