Gujarat’s First Coastal Bird Census

Gujarat is set to conduct India’s first coastal and wader bird census from January 3 to 5, 2025, at the Marine National Park and Sanctuary in Jamnagar. The census aims to document bird populations and habitats, focusing on over 300 species, including rare wader birds like the Crab Plover. The region lies on the Central Asian Flyway, a critical migratory route. Organized by the Gujarat Forest Department and Bird Conservation Society of Gujarat (BCSG), this initiative highlights the importance of preserving avian biodiversity. Scientific studies will guide conservation strategies for the region’s rich ecological heritage.
