Gavi Supports Rabies Vaccines for Global Eradication Efforts

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has increased support for human rabies vaccines, focusing on post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). Eligible countries can apply for funding starting mid-July 2024. Rabies, primarily transmitted by dog bites, causes severe neurological symptoms and is nearly 100% fatal without treatment. Gavi's efforts align with the Zero by 30 campaign, aiming to eliminate dog-mediated human rabies by 2030 through better surveillance, dog vaccination, and public awareness. Gavi, founded in 2000, has vaccinated 888 million children and prevented 15 million deaths by 2021.
