Discovery of New Giant Radio Galaxy

Astronomers using the MeerKAT radio telescope have discovered a new giant radio galaxy, MGTC J100022.85+031520.4, in the COSMOS field. Located 1.1 billion light years away, this elliptical galaxy spans 4.2 million light years with a mass of 93 trillion solar masses. Part of the WHL J100022.9+031521 cluster, its lobe features resemble Wide-Angle-Tail (WAT) sources, shaped by gas pressure. The MIGHTEE survey enabled detailed analysis, advancing our understanding of cosmic evolution and the role of GRGs in galaxy clusters.
