China’s First Type 076 Amphibious Assault Ship
China has launched its first Type 076 amphibious assault ship, Sichuan, at the Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard in Shanghai. With a displacement of over 40,000 tonnes, the ship features advanced technology, including an electromagnetic catapult and a full-length flight deck. Designed for power projection and long-range operations, it is crucial for China’s naval modernisation efforts, particularly in the Western Pacific and South China Sea. Following the launch, the ship will undergo multiple trials to ensure operational readiness, reflecting China’s strategic focus on enhancing maritime capabilities.
