Bihar Government Approves Culling of Nilgai and Wild Boars
Summary: The Bihar government has approved the culling of Nilgai and wild boars to reduce crop damage, which has significantly impacted farmers' livelihoods. The culling will begin in five districts with the highest crop damage: East Champaran, Vaishali, Buxar, Siwan, and Samastipur. The operation will follow strict guidelines, coordinated by local officials. Financial support, including compensation of ₹50,000 per hectare, will be provided to affected farmers. The decision aims to manage the estimated populations of 300,000 Nilgai and 67,000 wild boars, reduce agricultural losses, and protect farming communities while addressing potential ecological concerns.
