In June, 2 studies were published in the PLOS Medicine journal. These studies highlighted the issues of neonatal infections and drug resistance. This calls for a look at this emerging problem.

Background:

  • Neonatal mortality refers to the death of newborn within the first 28 days.
  • It is an important indicator of public health in a country. For instance, it significantly high in low- and middle-income countries.
  • According to WHO, 75% of neonatal deaths occur within the 1st week of the baby’s life.
