New Drone Incentives to Boost Domestic Manufacturing
The Indian government is launching a new Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to bolster the domestic drone ecosystem, allocating over ₹500 crore in the upcoming Budget. This follows a previous ₹120 crore initiative from 2021–22. The scheme aims to reduce import dependency (currently 50–60%) by promoting local manufacturing and services like leasing, software development, and anti-drone systems. With a target of increasing localisation to 30%, the initiative seeks to foster innovation across the drone value chain. Sectors such as agriculture and surveillance will benefit, positioning India as a competitive global player in drone technology while enhancing self-reliance.
