Ladki Bahin Scheme Review
Maharashtra is reviewing beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin scheme, launched in June 2024 to provide financial support to women from economically weaker sections. The scheme offers ₹1,500 per month, increasing to ₹2,100 upon re-election of the ruling party. The initiative costs an estimated ₹46,000 crore annually, raising concerns about fiscal sustainability. Eligibility criteria include family income below ₹2.5 lakh and specific exclusions, such as owning four-wheelers. The scrutiny process aims to ensure only eligible beneficiaries receive aid. The scheme, a significant factor in electoral success, reflects the challenge of balancing welfare commitments with financial prudence.
