Chhattisgarh’s Green GDP Initiative
Chhattisgarh has initiated a Green GDP framework that integrates the economic value of its forests into growth metrics. This innovative approach recognises forest ecosystem services, including CO2 absorption, water conservation, and biodiversity contributions, as part of the state's economic planning. With 44% forest cover, Chhattisgarh aims to balance ecological preservation with sustainable growth. The initiative reflects global practices in Green GDP, as seen in Bhutan, China, and the EU, while addressing challenges like resource valuation and data limitations. This effort will guide policies for eco-tourism, tribal livelihoods, and low-carbon economic transitions.
