2024 – A Year of Climate Crisis

The UN’s 2024 report highlights worsening climate conditions, with record-breaking heat and extreme weather events such as floods and cyclones. Global temperatures have risen by 1.54°C above pre-industrial levels, potentially making 2024 the hottest year on record. The Paris Agreement's 1.5°C goal is increasingly at risk due to rising greenhouse gas emissions. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has stressed urgent emission reductions and a shift to renewable energy by 2025. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) plans to enhance monitoring of frozen regions and improve climate services as part of its 75th-anniversary initiatives.
