Kaveri Engine Ready for Inflight Testing
The Kaveri engine, developed by India's Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), is ready for inflight testing, marking a key milestone in India’s aerospace self-reliance efforts. Initially intended for the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, the engine now focuses on UAV applications, such as the Ghatak stealth drone, with a dry version providing 49-51 kN thrust. After overcoming technical challenges, the engine has successfully undergone extensive testing in India and abroad. Future plans include Kaveri 2.0 with an afterburner for higher thrust. The development strengthens India's aerospace capabilities and reduces reliance on foreign suppliers.
