Britain Becomes First European Member of CPTPP
The UK has become the first European member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), a trade pact established in 2018 to promote economic integration and counter China’s influence in the Asia-Pacific region. Joining CPTPP gives the UK access to a market of over 500 million consumers, representing 15% of global GDP. This move aligns with the UK’s post-Brexit trade strategy to diversify partnerships. Member nations include Japan, Australia, Canada, and Singapore. The CPTPP is expected to enhance UK trade flows, create jobs, and strengthen its global economic standing while fostering collaborations with member countries.
