International Advisory Body for Submarine Cable Resilience
The International Advisory Body for Submarine Cable Resilience, formed by the ITU and ICPC, aims to strengthen the resilience of submarine telecommunications cables that carry 99% of global internet traffic. With 150–200 faults occurring annually due to fishing, anchoring, and natural disasters, the advisory body will develop best practices to minimize risks, enhance cable security, and expedite repairs. Co-chaired by Nigeria's Bosun Tijani and Portugal's Sandra Maximiano, the body comprises 40 global members. India, with 17 subsea cables, is a significant player in this infrastructure, and the ICPC facilitates collaboration to secure cables vital to global connectivity.
