New Temperature Regimes Impact Tropical Forest Biodiversity
A recent study published in Conservation Letters reveals that up to 66% of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) in tropical forests are facing extreme new temperature regimes due to climate change. Tropical species, accustomed to stable climates, are now struggling to adapt. The study highlights the impact of these changes in regions like Africa (72%), Latin America (59%), and Asia-Oceania (49%), threatening biodiversity. Urgent climate-smart policies are needed to protect these critical ecosystems by preventing deforestation, restoring forest areas, and addressing habitat degradation.
