SAMARTHAK- The First Ship of Multi-Purpose Vessel

India’s first Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV), Samarthak, was launched on October 15, 2024, at L&T Kattupalli Shipyard for the Indian Navy. Designed for multiple roles, such as towing ships, operating uncrewed vehicles, and serving as a trial platform for weapons, it marks a significant step towards India’s self-reliance in defense under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. The MPV project, started in 2022, underscores India’s growing defense manufacturing capabilities, with the ship playing a vital role in enhancing the Navy’s operational efficiency.
