Marburg Virus Outbreak in Rwanda

Rwanda is experiencing its first outbreak of the Marburg virus, with 46 confirmed infections and 12 deaths. Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) is highly fatal, with a mortality rate between 24% and 88%. The virus spreads from fruit bats to humans and then through bodily fluids. Healthcare workers, making up 80% of cases, are especially vulnerable, and the outbreak stresses Rwanda's limited healthcare system. There are no approved treatments or vaccines, though Rwanda is exploring experimental vaccines. Key symptoms include fever, headaches, and hemorrhaging. Supportive care and infection control measures are critical to managing the outbreak.
