Bihar’s Second Tiger Reserve

Bihar has received temporary approval to establish its second tiger reserve in Kaimur district. With the Valmiki Tiger Reserve exceeding its capacity of 45 tigers, the Kaimur reserve aims to manage tiger overpopulation and promote ecosystem balance. Plans involve relocating some tigers from Valmiki to Kaimur’s 450-square-kilometer reserve, reduced from an initial proposal of 900 sq. km. Efforts to create the reserve began in 2018, following evidence of tigers in the area. Kaimur’s vast forests, connected to wildlife corridors, make it an important biodiversity hub in Bihar. This move enhances tiger conservation and regional biodiversity.
