India Becomes Third Largest Ethanol Producer and Consumer

India has become the third-largest producer and consumer of ethanol, driven by government policies supporting biofuel production, rural farmers, and energy sustainability. The India Sugar & Bio-Energy Conference in September 2024 focused on “Harmonising Sweet Sustainability,” aiming to promote eco-friendly practices in the sugar and bio-energy sectors. Ethanol, a renewable biofuel, is made from plants and agricultural byproducts. Government efforts aim to increase ethanol blending in fuels, reduce fossil fuel dependence, and boost the rural economy. India is positioned to become a leader in the global biofuels sector, supporting its green economy goals.
