FSSAI Withdraws Advisory on A1, A2 Milk Claims
On August 27, 2024, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) withdrew an advisory that had instructed food businesses to remove references to ‘A1’ and ‘A2’ milk from their product packaging. This reversal allows businesses to continue using these claims while FSSAI engages in further discussions with stakeholders to potentially revise regulations. The original advisory, issued on August 21, 2024, was based on current regulations that did not recognize the protein differences between A1 and A2 milk. FSSAI plans to review these regulations and possibly introduce new guidelines in the future.
