Global Flooding Increase Prediction by 2100
A recent study predicts that global flooding will increase by 49% by 2100, primarily due to high greenhouse gas emissions. Flood risks will vary regionally, with tropical coastlines and dry areas being most affected. By 2050, flooding could rise by 7% to 15%, depending on emissions levels. Coastal flooding is expected to nearly double by 2100. The study uses a Global Flood Map (GFM) to predict flood patterns and stresses the importance of proactive infrastructure planning, reducing emissions, and focusing on the most vulnerable regions to mitigate future flood impacts.
