India Ranks Third in Global Forest Area Gains

India ranks third globally in forest area gains, adding 266,000 hectares annually from 2010 to 2020, as per the FAO report. Leading the rankings are China and Australia, with significant contributions also from Chile, Vietnam, Turkey, the USA, France, Italy, and Romania. India's success is attributed to innovative policies and restoration efforts. Globally, deforestation rates are declining, with notable reductions in Indonesia and Brazil. However, challenges like climate change and threats from insects and diseases remain. The FAO, founded in 1945 and headquartered in Rome, plays a critical role in monitoring food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices worldwide.
