UN Calls for Global Cooperation and Pandemic Treaty to Fight AMR
The United Nations is advocating for a global pandemic treaty to combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), a severe public health threat. Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed emphasized the urgency of the treaty, which aims to enhance global cooperation rather than control national authorities. Despite some opposition, particularly from the UK, the treaty seeks to address misinformation and coordinate worldwide efforts to manage emerging pathogens and AMR. The World Health Assembly will discuss the treaty's future in May 2024, with significant implications for public health, economic stability, and food security.
