The Supreme Court of India has recently released new guidelines for the designation of senior advocates practicing mainly in the Apex Court. These guidelines replace the previous ones issued in 2018 and come as a result of a ruling delivered on May 12, 2023, by a three-judge bench led by Justice SK Kaul. The new guidelines introduce changes in the minimum age requirement, recommendations process, and evaluation criteria for senior advocate designation.
