Erode Venkatappa Ramasamy (1879-1973) also known as Periyar E.V. Ramasamy Naicker or Thanthai Periyar was a radical social reformer and politician. He was the founder of the Self-Respect Movement and Dravidar Kazhagam. He is known as the 'Father of the Dravidian Movement'. He fought against caste and gender discrimination and inequalities in Tamil Nadu bravely and is remembered as one of India's social reform heroes.
