International Archives Day

International Archives Day 2023 observed.

What:

• It is an international day to create awareness of the importance of archives and other records.

Significance:

• 2023 marks the 75^th anniversary of ICA/ International Council on Archives.

Who:

• International Council on Archives
  • It is an international NGO created on June 9^th, 1948.
  • Paris, France
  • It held its 1^st assembly in 1950- this assembly saw the release of the council’s 1^st journal, Archivum.
  • The National Archives of India is a constituent member of the ICA.

When:

• Observed on June 9^th of every year.
• Resolution for the observation was adopted at the International Congress in Vienna, in 2004.
• At the 2007 ICA Annual General Meeting, June 9^th was chosen to commemorate the date of creation of ICA.
