Introduction

Gopal Krishna Gokhale was a noted freedom fighter, liberal political leader, social reformer and senior leader of the Indian National Congress (INC) belonging to the 'moderate' group of nationalists. As much as he is known for his contribution to the national movement, so is he famous for being Gandhi's 'political guru'. Gokhale was a scholar and a statesman who campaigned for Indian self-rule and social reforms with great effort. His petitions sought to cultivate a process of dialogue and discussion with British authorities to earn the due share of Indians.
