The 2025 Maha Kumbh festival in Prayagraj saw a record-breaking footfall of over 66 crore people. To manage the environmental impact and enhance the city’s green cover, the Uttar Pradesh government adopted the Miyawaki technique for afforestation. This Japanese method, known for creating dense urban forests, has gained global recognition for its effectiveness in carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. Over 56,000 square meters of land in Prayagraj were covered with Miyawaki forests, transforming barren areas and garbage dumps into thriving green spaces.
