Rising Women’s Workforce Participation
India has seen a significant rise in women’s workforce participation, especially in rural areas, driven by government schemes like Mudra loans, Drone Didi, and Self-Help Groups under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana. The Female Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) for rural women rose from 24.6% to 41.5% (2017–2023), with urban LFPR increasing modestly from 20.4% to 25.4%. Regional disparities exist; rural Jharkhand showed over 230% growth, while Punjab and Haryana report lower rates. Women’s participation peaks between ages 30–40 but drops post-marriage, affected by childcare responsibilities. These findings call for nuanced policies to enhance women’s employment opportunities further.
