PAN 2.0 Project Approved by Union Cabinet

The PAN 2.0 Project, approved by the Union Cabinet, modernises the Permanent Account Number (PAN) system with an investment of Rs 1,435 crore. Led by the Income Tax Department, the upgrade introduces a QR code for enhanced security and usability. A unified portal replaces the outdated system to ensure faster, paperless services. The initiative is free for existing PAN holders and aims to improve the overall user experience while addressing the needs of businesses for a common identification system. Over 78 crore PAN cards have been issued, with the upgrade focusing on reliability and better grievance mechanisms.
