Andhra Pradesh Bill to End Discrimination
The Andhra Pradesh government has introduced a Bill to amend the Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences Act, 1986, addressing discriminatory terms against leprosy-affected individuals. This aligns with the NHRC’s 2022 advisory recommending the removal of discriminatory laws. The initiative also reflects the principles of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, ensuring equality for leprosy-cured persons. The government’s commitment to inclusivity is evident through this reform, which also highlights the effectiveness of multi-drug therapy in treating leprosy.
