Neft Daslari: World’s Oldest Offshore Platform
Neft Daslari, the world’s oldest offshore oil platform, located 100 kilometers from Baku, Azerbaijan, remains a historical icon in the fossil fuel industry. Built in the 1940s, it once housed over 5,000 workers but now has a declining workforce of fewer than 3,000. Production and environmental concerns, including pollution and untreated waste, have raised questions about its future, especially with COP29 focusing on sustainable practices. While experts suggest converting Neft Daslari into a tourist attraction or museum, it continues to symbolize the environmental costs associated with oil exploration.
