Egypt Achieves Historic Malaria-Free Certification

Egypt has been officially certified as malaria-free by the World Health Organization (WHO) on October 21, 2024, marking an important milestone in its battle against malaria, a disease that has existed there for centuries. This certification signifies that Egypt has had no indigenous cases of malaria for at least three consecutive years and has proven its ability to prevent the disease's return. Egypt joins 44 other countries in achieving this recognition. Despite this success, malaria remains a global health challenge, with over 600,000 annual deaths, primarily in Africa.
