Telangana Appoints Commission for Scheduled Castes Sub-Classification

The Telangana government has formed a commission, led by retired Justice Shameem Akhtar, to study the sub-classification of Scheduled Castes (SCs) to ensure equitable distribution of reservation benefits. The commission, established under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, will use empirical data to group SC sub-castes and measure their levels of backwardness. It will also study underrepresentation in state jobs and educational institutions, aiming to recommend fair strategies for distributing reservation benefits. The commission has 60 days to complete its report and submit recommendations for better policy implementation.
