World Experiences Hottest Northern Hemisphere Summer
The summer of 2024 was the hottest ever recorded in the northern hemisphere, surpassing the previous record set in 2023. The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) attributes this to global warming caused by human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels. The El Niño climate phenomenon also contributed to the rising temperatures. The report highlights the severe impact on weather patterns, with extreme events like floods, droughts, and intensified storms becoming more frequent. Immediate action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is necessary to mitigate further risks to ecosystems and human communities.
