CNARMADA Launch
The Indian Institutes of Technology Gandhinagar and Indore, supported by the Ministry of Jalshakti, have launched the Centre for Narmada River Basin Management (cNARMADA) to assess and ensure the sustainability of the Narmada River ecosystem. The center aims to evaluate the river's current condition through a Condition Assessment and Management Plan (CAMP), focusing on the impacts of human activities like industrialization, urbanization, deforestation, and dam construction. The Narmada River, flowing through Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, is crucial for agriculture, drinking water, electricity, and supports the livelihoods of 1.5 million people. The Ministry of Jalshakti oversees water resource management and related initiatives in India.
