Indian-Origin Professor Shrinivas R Kulkarni Wins Shaw Prize in Astronomy

Shrinivas R. Kulkarni, an Indian-origin professor in the US, won the 2024 Shaw Prize in Astronomy for his pioneering work on millisecond pulsars, gamma-ray bursts, and supernovae. The Shaw Prize, established in 2002 by Run Run Shaw, awards significant achievements in Astronomy, Life Science and Medicine, and Mathematical Sciences, each worth USD 1.2 million. Kulkarni's notable contributions include leading the Palomar Transient Factory and the Zwicky Transient Facility.
