Indians Shift to LMIA Route Amid Canada Student Caps
In response to the Canadian government's recent cap on student visas, which aims to control immigration and reduce strain on local resources, many Indian students are turning to the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) route. The new policy reduces the number of study permits from 390,000 in 2023 to 360,000 in 2024. The LMIA pathway allows Canadian employers to hire foreign workers if they cannot find suitable local candidates, thus providing an alternative for those affected by the visa limits. This shift addresses labor shortages in various sectors and offers a potentially more cost-effective immigration option, despite challenges like processing times and additional costs.
