Centre’s Green Credit Programme (GCP)

The Centre's Green Credit Programme (GCP), introduced by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, is an innovative initiative designed to promote sustainable environmental practices across various sectors in India. Launched in October 2023, the programme encourages activities such as tree plantation, water conservation, and waste management by offering tradable green credits. These credits can be earned through specific environmental actions and later traded on a dedicated platform. The programme aims to shift the focus from merely reducing carbon emissions to a more holistic approach of environmental conservation, leveraging market mechanisms to foster voluntary compliance and incentivize eco-friendly practices.
