Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) is a scheme as part of Atmanirbhar Bharat to supply free food grains to migrants and poor.

Ministry

The program is operated by the Department of Food and Public Distribution under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The nodal ministry is the Ministry of Finance.

Objectives

To provide free food grains to the poor and migrants during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Benefits

PMGKAY provides 5 kg of foodgrains per month to each family holding a ration card free of cost in addition to the subsidized ration provided under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) to families covered under the Public Distribution System (PDS). Wheat is allocated to 6 States/UTs, and rice is provided to the remaining States/UTs.
