The Uttar Pradesh government has created a new Maha Kumbh Mela district in Prayagraj to ensure efficient management of the upcoming Kumbh Mela in January 2025. A special administrative team, led by a Mela Adikari with powers akin to a District Magistrate, will oversee the event. Uber has launched Uber Shikara, Asia’s first water transport service, on Dal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative blends modern technology with the cultural charm of traditional shikara rides. It broadens the definition of “mineral oils” to include resources like shale oil and gas hydrates, excluding coal and helium. The bill simplifies the regulatory process with a new “petroleum lease” and expands government powers for emissions control and lease dispute resolution. Exploration in restricted areas is now permitted, and penalties shift to administrative fines. Despite its potential, sustained production growth and renewable energy adoption are crucial for long-term energy security.

The World Maritime Technology Conference (WMTC) 2024 is being held in Chennai from December 4 to 6, marking India’s first time hosting the event in 15 years. A triennial event of global significance, WMTC gathers industry experts to discuss themes like climate change, sustainability, maritime technology advancements, and business challenges. The conference, previously hosted in cities like Mumbai and Copenhagen, faced delays due to COVID-19.
