Boltz-1: AI Model for Predicting Biomedical Structures

MIT scientists have developed Boltz-1, an open-source AI model designed to predict protein structures, enhancing biomedical research and drug development. Comparable in accuracy to Google DeepMind’s proprietary AlphaFold3, Boltz-1 addresses accessibility concerns by offering a freely available model. Developed by Jeremy Wohlwend, Gabriele Corso, and team, Boltz-1 integrates advanced algorithms to improve prediction efficiency. It leverages data from the Protein Data Bank and supports global collaboration in biomolecular research. Supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation and Cancer Grand Challenges, Boltz-1 is a transformative tool for accelerating innovations in healthcare, tackling complex challenges in medicine, and fostering research inclusivity.
